Wreath-laying ceremony at the tomb of Hero of the Soviet Union Richard Sorge

On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Russian Ambassador to Japan Mikhail Galuzin, ambassadors of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, senior officials of the Embassy and Trade Mission of Russia in Tokyo, representatives of Russian compatriots and the Japanese public laid flowers to the memorial of the outstanding Soviet intelligence officer, Hero of the Soviet Union Richard Sorge at Tokyo's Tama Cemetery. 

The head of the Russian diplomatic mission noted that the Great Victory was the result of the heroic joint efforts of all the republics and peoples of the Soviet Union. The importance of preserving the memory of the heroic deed of the Soviet people and the decisive role of the USSR in the victory over Nazism and militarism was emphasized in conditions when attempts are being made to rewrite history.

The participants honored the memory of those who died in the Great Patriotic War with a minute of silence.
